Oh what a wonderful weekend

Fun times #1: Random work occurances. I worked the overnight shift Thursday, but it was nice and steady so the bulk of the night went by quickly. By around 3:30, things had quieted down nicely and I had some time to doodle and relax. A gentleman came into the lobby sometime around 4 looking for some coffee and a comfy place to sit while he waited for his friend to arrive from Fredericton and pick him up. Thanks to him, the rest of my morning passed filled with interesting conversations about music, work, and travel. My new lobby friend was an ex-marine from Australia who now works in North Carolina for an international private security firm and is a firearms instructor. Talk about fascinating! As if that wasn't enough, he also happens to speak 4 languages and play drums. Awesome.
The doodle I referred earlier has now gone through cleanup in Photoshop and is ready for come colour. I'm so excited to see how it turns out. For those who haven't seen it yet, it's based on old-school tattoo designs and consists of a heart with a key (the one from my necklace) pierced through it. Mike already thinks I should make it my first tattoo heheh

Fun times #2: Wintersleep & Contrived at the Marquee Friday night. What a show. It really made me miss seeing shows at the Marquee... I kept thinking back at all the amazing shows and great times that made me love the Marquee... sigh. I had a great time helping with the merch booth and rockin out to the sweet tunes.

Fun times #3: Shopping with Steph Saturday afternoon. It seems like it's been forever since I've gone to the mall and had a good wander. What a strangely lovely treat it is to browse around any store that catches my eye and not have to worry about rushing. It was really nice. We started out with smoothies and began our stroll around the lovely Halifax Shopping Center. The mission = underwear. heheheh Steph had some fantastic finds and took away 3 (or was it 4...?) bags - all very cute underwear ;) In the end I found a great camo-green hoodie that I LOVE and picked up some very cute knickers myself. I'm wearing a pair right now, as a matter of fact ^_^ teehee After all the shopping, we retired to the food court to kick up our feet. Without even noticing, we managed to spend the better part of at least 4 hours in that mall. Steph, you are on amazingly fun person to hang out with. I very much enjoyed our little chat.

Fun times #'s 4-6... coming soon. Alas my shift is coming to its end, free breakfast is calling me heheh

Oh Love Day

Happy Valentine's Day.

Yes, I know it's all just some mega-corporate scheme to trick you and I into thinking we must buy cards, candy, and everything red or else we really don't love anybody or care about our friends, but that's beside the point. Sometimes it just feels nice to say Happy Valentine's Day.

X's and O's to you all. Now go out and hug someone.

FUCK

Fuck, I'm an idiot.
End of story.
Somebody really should just hit me once in a while. Just fucking smack some sense into me. I mean, how can one person take such a perfectly great weekend and pick the one bad moment of it all to brood over like some clinically obsessed moron? As much as I like to consider myself a very smart and levelheaded individual, sometimes ... man ... I might as well shoot myself for some of the shit that I do. It's like my brain goes on a full-on vacation and leaves nothing but a bloody pool of mush sloshing around between my ears. I can't believe it ... I hate myself for doing shit like this, I really do ... Next time you see me dancing on that line, do me a favour and just fuckin hit me. Look me right in the eye and say, "you're being a fuckin moron.. STOP IT!" Why on earth would someone try to sabotage their own chances for having something great in their life. Moron. Bloody moron.

Vixen!

I was in a bit of a crummy mood yesterday with thoughts of people being out of touch and in Europe culminating in a crippling lonelyness. I needed to cheer myself up so I had planned on taking a nice walk around town and listening to some tunes - something that always has a way of cheering me up. My plan hit a bit of a wall when mum and I decided to watch "just a few" episodes of the 24 Season 2 box set we rented from Video Difference. I should know by now that "just a few" really means more like 4 hours worth heheh By the time we decided to take a break the sun was already on its way down and it was starting to get chilly. Still in the mood to get out and about I decided to take a little drive downtown to pick up a new CD and a coffee or something of the like.

I parked near Pizza Corner and was planning to head straight to CD Plus, but took a little detour to Night Magic. Over an hour and a lot of smiles later, I finally left the store - red shopping bag in hand. I am now the very proud owner of these bloody beautiful masterpieces ... http://www.ellieshoes.com/pic/8400-large.jpg ... in black. They are amazing! I have to say they are my first 4-inch heals (my first 4-inch pattent leather pumps at that) and I am in love. I have had in mind to buy such a shoe for some time now, but yesterday was just my day. The lady and fellow in the store were so nice and had me trying on all kinds of great outfits. She let me wear the shoes around the store for ages to make sure they felt right and gave me some great tips on how to take care of them (Armorall, who would have thought!) They are just the right mix of class and pin-up sex appeal. I think I'm going to find an excuse to wear them tomorrow even.

Martini night anyone?!!?

Ode to the New Year

So I sent off my first resume of the year yesterday. I am one very excited girl. I really really really - with sugar on top - hope I get the job. As much as I want to stay here and get working on projects here, it would be such a great opportunity. It would also put me right in my sister's back yard (and possibly in her spare bedroom hehe)! :) I know it's dangerous to get my hopes up, but the more and more I think about it and over the time mum and I were polishing up my resume, I've only gotten increasingly excited by the potential of such an adventure. I've already started looking into what opportunites there would be to get involved in the music industry in Portland. And trust me, the relatively close proximity to Seatle has not gone unnoticed.

I think it's really starting to sink in that one large benefit to moving back to the states is that I could do anything... work anywhere... really do anything and go anywhere and get paid for it all. No visa. No immigration paperwork. No government approval. No bloody red tape. Anything. It's really funny to think that all this time I've been able to work, I have never had that freedom. For the first time I will be able to do any job that I want. Do any side jobs that I want. Do any studying, interning, freelancing that I want. Rediculous. Seriously, I don't know if work has even seemed so surreal. If I get the job I have applied for, I've already found a music lounge in town that is looking for an intern for their booking department. Oh what the future may hold!

Oh such ponderings...

Part 1... So my jobs pretty much right up in the air at the moment. I always knew that it was a term position and the fact that I've been able to keep it past the agreed end is really just a matter of good fortune. I was supposed to only be supervising here to the end of November, but due to increased numbers, vacations, and the like, I was offered the chance to keep the job for some additional months. Now I'm finding out (partly due to my own stupidity in not thinking this was coming earlier and asking questions) that I'm guaranteed only to the end of January... yup... this month.... (sigh)

So now I'm left with either letting things play out as they may and finding myself unemployed once they find a replacement or going back to overnight shifts at the Delta Barrington to sustain my income after the replacement is in place. UGH!!! God I really don't want to go back to those hours! If I had been paying closer attention, I should have just re-applied for my own job and at least I would have more time to find another one! At least this all comes at a time when I'm already trying to find a new and challenging job to follow, but still! I really don't like being rushed. I wonder if they would still accept my application....? Then again, my boss already knows that if they hired me on it would only be for however long it takes me to find something else. STUPID WORK!... grrr stupid me!

So now I'm going to be polishing up my resume since I have tomorrow and the next day off. I reeeeeeally want to get that job out in Oregon with my sister!! It sounds just like what I'm after. As much as I would really like to get music into the focus of my career, I think the job in Oregon would give me a chance to gain experience with marketing and working in the arts. Oh such fun could be had! And no more bloody visa issues!!! Oh how that would be the life! Alas, being even further away from important persons and everyone here would suck.... At the same time I'm getting ahead of myself and I really shouldn't be doing that... dangerous dangerous talk, that is...

Oh what is a girl to do!?!?!?! On the lighter, less stressed side of things... my friend Dave got a new ferret!!! It was a total surprise when I got to meet him yesterday. soooooo so so cute! He's smaller than his other ferret, Eager (another total cutie), and has more of the classic bandit colouring. They seem to be getting along alright so far, but it has only been 1 day. Dave has given me the task of naming this new "god-son" of mine haha

Booo to Lanmark upgrades!

So, in case you weren't aware, Lanmark is the lovely operating system behind the many workings of the Delta Halifax hotel. While I have enjoyed it and its many quirks over my time here, tonight it is quickly falling into my black books... well... to be fair, it's not so much Lanmark, but rather Lanmark support. Ah yes, Lanmark support - they who were supposed to be doing an upgrade that would only take, "a very short period of time. You'll be back up and running in no time."

Of course, being such eternal optimists (or perhaps eternal sadists is a more appropriate term, considering the agony they must know it causes those on the receiving end of these "short" upgrade system downs) it has now been over 2 hours and out systems are still not back up. F&B opened for business over half an hour ago and cannot post any bills until the systems are up. My relief at the front desk should be here any minute and there is still Night Audit work to be done.... Should anyone be wondering, this lovely Lanmark is quite crucial to the working of the hotel and without it, everyone is looking at a very long and tedious morning until it comes back online.... sigh.... Oh what a day.

But there is a light on the horizon! Support has finally logged out of our system and we're just going to hammer out the last of our work now. I really hope I can still get out of here by 7:30... siiiiiigh.

I should really stop ranting.

Work work work

Well, so I'm just on my first of another two Night Audit shifts at the hotel and... well... I'm a bit bored. It's a rediculously quiet night and we're all done our work for the time being. Now it's just a matter of waiting for the computer systems to come back up. That being the case, I figured I'd do a little 'Livejournaling' since it's been yonks since I have posted anything on here.

First things first: A HUUUGE congratulations to my most wonderful of sisters for her great job-hunting success!!! For those of you who haven't heard, my sister just got back from having a job interview in Oregon. She was there interviewing for an assistant editor position with (drum roll please)... Dark Horse Comics!! Seriously, how bloody amazing is that!?! Better yet, they practically offered her the job right there on the spot! I am so rediculously proud of her, it's beyond words. So now she's got about 3-4 weeks while they get things sorted out to make the move to the Portland area. Her boyfriend Aren is even moving out there with her. Talk about one hell of a guy. My parents are planning to help them make the move out there and get all their stuff settled in. Sadly, I won't be able to help out since work and such will be in the way, but Sam has already promised to have the futon ready to go as soon as they settle in so that I can come to visit very soon :) There is an upside to being stuck here, however, as I will get to babysit a house, car, and my parents' cat while they're all away.

I'm starting to get the moving itch again... Especially now that it's looking as if the rest of the family will be making the move from here very soon. Sam is really eager to have me move out West so that we can still be close to eachother. That really is something that I've been giving some serious thought to. So many options....

Jeebus!

My my my!! Over a month since I last posted! Wow, well isn't that just a shameful pile-o-shite. I think tonight I shall have to get online and post some photos up here because... well... I like photos and have many a one that is yurning to be shared with the masses. I may have to start in some chronologically ordered fashion though, because I'm sure there will have to be a story to set each batch up since I have not yet posted about the joys of Cymbria and many a show from the past quiet month of which the photographs pay homage. Oh the joys!!!

Sun, Aug. 22nd, 2004, 11:09 pm

Oh dear oh dear.... now I'm starting to wonder if I've got the dates right or not... I'm so good with the memory lately! heheh That's the trouble with coming to town at night, because some people would say Sunday, when it's actually Monday after midnight, but just doesn't seem like it until you've actually been to bed and gotten up again... but maybe they did mean Monday as in after tonight's midnight, or Monday's evening onto Tuesday after midnight!?! Oh the confusion of it all!! Well, either way, she's still coming here soon haha and that's all that matters :D Guess I'll just have to wait and see when.

yaaaaaaaay The Momentary Home-coming!

Hurray! Today is the day of Abby's glorious, yet far too brief, trip back to the big city! She's been in Nantucket (of all places) working for the past many months, but is coming back in Halifax for one glorious night before heading back down to Nantucket. I'm still not sure what/where/when everything is happening, but it's bound to be a frenzy of excitement and ridiculousness hahaha Anyone interested in joining in or giving suggestions for fun stuff to do on a Sunday, feel free to chime in :)

Cheers.

What a day, what a day

Hmm... second entry time... now what should I talk about....

Oh! heheheheee perfect! So, you see, there's this kitten at work. I know, I know - me ranting about my love of all things feline is nothing new, but my god, I am in love all over again. Any day now I'll have to take a picture of her and get it up on here to see if any of you can add to the list of name suggestions we have going at the vet (my votes still for either Charlotte or Anya so far ;) ).

She's a little stray that someone found all alone behind a dumpster somewhere in town. Shite, is she ever amazing!!! She came in on Monday and was apparently just petrified of everything, but one day later and she's well on her way to a complete turn-around! ^_^ All skin and bones, but so full of love!! I sat with her for ages and just groomed and cuddled her. We figure she's somewhere around 9 weeks old and extremely malnourished. And what amazing features! She's long-haired, black/dark brown fur (patches of which are tipped with a beautiful reddy-brown, white toes and tummy, and wicked ear tufts! heheh She has a white stripe that goes from her top lip to her white chest.

So have I gone into enough detail about my new love yet? heheh I just can't help it, I'm sorry. My sister and mum can both attest to the fact that she's just that awesome. As I said, I'm sure there'll be a picture up on here before too long.

Well, I think that's just about enough gushing for today heheh Until next time...

Come one, Come all!

Well well now... so this is what it's like to have a live-journal space on the net. Now I'm just going to be confronted with the inevitable difficulty of coming up with things to say and ways to entertain! Fortunately I do have quite the love for taking pictures and doodling, so perhaps I can use that to keep things interesting and make sure you don't all run away too quickly.

So far I'm assuming that all the people who will be finding this site are the friends (and relatives!) that I just added to my friends list, but feel free to invite others. This may turn out to be quite a bit of fun, you know! heheh ah yes...

Well, I guess that's all for now... just kinda wanted to say hi... and play around with how this whole thingie works. Cheers to all!
